OREGON OUTDOOR WEDDING || MARK & KELSEY || THE INN AT AVONLEA
The days leading up to Mark & Kelsey’s wedding day in Sandy, Oregon were slightly filled with last minute planning due to possible weather complications. As a wedding photographer in Oregon, rain filled wedding days are always possible but not any less wonderful. The beauty of this day with Mark & Kelsey was their openness and flexibility to making small changes when needed all the while staying relaxed. A wedding can be stressful enough as it is, and they handled this day with such grace. It was an honor to be able to work with them how we needed.
They had baskets with blankets for those who were chilly, umbrellas to cover those who spent their afternoon getting primping, and moved their ceremony from a beautiful, yet vulnerable, open field to an elegant and rustic barn backdrop. Their ability to be flexible made this day so much fun even when it started to downpour thirty minutes before their wedding. I believe at one time, Kelsey had the rain cover to my camera over her hair as she darted for cover.
The weather this day was definitely random, but it was an absolute blast and am thankful for Mark & Kelsey’s upbeat and flexible outlook on their wedding day.
LIFESTYLE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER || STAYTON, OR || SCARLETT JO
Is this little girl not the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen? Scarlett Jo was welcomed into her family by her parents and adorable older brother (who still may need some convincing that having sister is a good thing). Her baby mohawk couldn’t be tamed quite yet, but she was rocking it, don’t you agree?
OREGON OUTDOOR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPER || VANDERBECK VALLEY FARM || PAGANO
The Pagano’s are preparing to welcome a sweet little girl into their family soon, but all that was on Connor’s mind this day was the dog that kept barking next door. We half-successfully tore his attention away from the dog (more like the dog stopped barking), and we got some smiles out of him. Looking forward to a new addition to their family come August!
A big thanks to Vanderbeck Valley Farm as well! They were kind enough to lend us their beautiful space for our outdoor family photoshoot and we were grateful for the versatile locations!
COLUMBIA GORGE ENGAGEMENT || PORTLAND, OR || TYLER & CHELSEY
The Columbia Gorge this day was perfect for our shoot and we were only interrupted once by a big truck with an american flag blasting country music. After that fun party, it was as peaceful as it looks. We hung out for about an hour taking photos and thought we would try and catch some of the blooming trees before the sun went down. Our plans changed quickly as we hopped in the car and soon after the rain started to fall. We were pretty proud we dodged the rain, and although we didn’t getting any cherry blossom photos, I love how you can feel their joy in these images sans flowers. Hopefully you will see some more photos of them pop up with their cute pup sometime!
COLUMBIA GORGE ENGAGEMENT || LYLE, WASHINGTON || MARK & KELSEY
LIFESTYLE NEWBORN SHOOT || PORTLAND, OR || ESMÉ ELIZABETH
Esmé Elizabeth. Beloved. God's Promise.
This beautiful little girl's arrival has been long anticipated and an answer to many years of hoping and praying. I've known Dave and Allison for only a small portion of the season before Esmé, but their love for a little girl they so desired for their family held such a depth, I felt like I was there from the beginning and am grateful to have walked with them in that time. Esmé is forever beloved in the eyes of her parents, big brothers, family, friends, and so many others. I admire Allison for her gentleness with her boys, her incredible abilities to hike four miles when she is nearing her due date, and her openness and honesty along a journey that was not an easy one to walk. Needless to say, Dave, Allison, and their boys are not a hard family to love and I'm honored they let me to capture Esmé in her first days in this new world.
I am proud to introduce sweet, sweet Esmé Elizabeth!
CORNELIUS PASS FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY || HILLSBORO, OR || ANTHONY & CALLIE
If you don't know what Mcmenamins is, you're missing out first of all, not only on wonderful live music, cajun tots, and black cherry cider (come on summer!), but also on these sweet little oasis's across Oregon & Washington that offer spots like these to shoot sweet family portraits without even realizing you're still surrounded by civilization. Cue Anthony, Callie and their two kids River and Wren. River could have run around the trees all day, only breaking to hug his mom or throw leaves in the air. Wren took quite a while to warm up to the whole idea of having a weird black device pointed at her face, but once she did, her smile was contagious. We were thankful for a break in the cold and some sunshine in the winter to warm up this shoot!
CAPE KIWANDA ANNIVERSARY SHOOT || PACIFIC CITY, OR || AARON & MELISSA
SUMMER ROOFTOP WEDDING || PORTLAND, OREGON || TIM & ALLISON
I had the pleasure of working with my friends Duane & Sarah with this beautiful 'destination wedding' in Portland. Tim and Allison, both hailing from California, decided Portland was the perfect place to say I do. Even with melting temperature of 94 degrees (Portland, you're better than that) wasn't going to stop this wedding party from enjoying their short time in Oregon. They served cocktails at arrival and created an intimate space for their guests to celebrate their union at a beautiful rooftop venue in downtown Portland.
OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY || LAKE OSWEGO, OREGON || DANIEL & ASHLEY
I am not sure where to start with this wonderful family. Daniel & Ashley have been so gracious to our family. Ashley is an amazing cook, I constantly find myself asking her for her recipes and wondering how she keeps up with cooking/baking, making those boys so stylish, and living a purposeful life among many, many other things. Daniel is of course, equally great. A solid father & master of all things whiskey to name a few. They are the kindest people you will ever meet and their boys melt my heart to the point of no return. They have the sweetest smiles that can turn your day around in a pinch (refer to the photos for evidence). The boys were troopers and they escaped the shoot almost in as good of shape as they started despite a scraped knee and a face full of sand.
CRYSTAL SPRINGS GARDEN PHOTOGRAPHY || PORTLAND, OREGON || JOHNSON FAMILY
I think there is a saying that goes something like, "the photographer has a big mouth make sure you don't tell her things." If not, there should be one written up for me. Regardless of my big mouth, the Johnson family was such a blast to work with. (this was an anniversary gift. they knew about the photoshoot, not so much about the gift part...sorry guys!) But I think all was forgiven and anytime I am reminded of my own family when I'm shooting, I know it's going to be a good night.
They proved many things that night. You're never too old to climb trees, your husband will probably try on your jean jacket at least once in your marriage, and that it is actually humanly possible to have three of your children get married in one year.
It was a spunky shoot, celebrating the anniversary of two people who have persevered in their marriage and raised up a wonderful family who know how to have fun together (even if it is at a park and they aren't allowed to jump into the water.)
P.S. don't miss the goose that is leading the pack in the first picture, he couldn't help himself.
HOLY FAMILY SHRINE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY || GRETNA, NEBRASKA || KEVIN & WERA
Oh, where to start with this wonderful family. I've had the privilege of knowing Kevin & Wera for about 4 years now and I must say they are some of the coolest parents (and people) ever. They welcome you into their home and you become a part of their family. The kids might take a minute to warm up, but don't expect that to last long. You will be braiding their hair and reading them stories in no time. Their house is set up perfectly to play bat, bat, ghost...which is of course the kids revised version of duck, duck, goose, and you can expect to go outside to visit Buffy the chicken. Not to mention, Wera is also an incredible cook, and I don't just give that title to anyone. When my husband hounds me to get her chocolate chip cookie recipe or homemade pizza dough I know we've found something special. On this particular day we celebrated Charlie's birthday with homemade pizza and homemade chocolate cake. The kids then took selfies of themselves on my phone until their parents were ready and we were off. It only took us a couple of wrong turns and a detour before getting to the shrine but we made it fueled with pizza and cake filled bellies. The girls spent half of the night trying to stop their brother from running off a cliff, but thankfully we were in Nebraska and there aren't that many cliffs. Needless to say we had a blast & I am honored they trusted me to capture their sweet memories. I could go on all day about how great this family is, but I think this session frames a solid picture of the joy they bring each other daily.
Jake and Alli have been married for six years but that doesn't stop those passing by to ask if they are doing engagement pictures. I've only known these two for about six months but I think this says a few cool things about them: that their love still radiates outwardly and that they age very well...or that they got married young and are still quite young (I say both). either way, it speaks volumes to the way they have continually poured into each other and their marriage. they had fun together even when they were a little freaked out that people were watching them, and laughed together when a biker put bunny ears on Alli. these are the nights I love, with couples that love each other.
SELLWOOD ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY || PORTLAND, OREGON || NICK & JADE
talk about a couple that makes you want to go home and love your man better. nick & jade danced, they laughed, & they practiced their 'senior prom' photo just incase someone asks for that pose at their wedding...you really never know what you have to be prepared for. jade's laugh was so contagious & it was an absolute joy to document them as they loved each other well.
Kristin helped me ring in the spring season with all of her beautiful floral attire. she was also smart and wore black boots which came in handy when we took a short cut across the grass and ended up trudging through the mud, sinking deeper into the ground the closer we got to the sidewalk. thankfully, Kristin was such a good sport. I'm excited to be working with her again now that the weather is warming up!
